Frequently Asked Questions
With Panthera black, powder free, latex examination gloves being so popular why launch an alternative choice?
The team at Barber Healthcare are always listening to customers and over the last few years we have been asked: “Can you produce a black nitrile disposable glove which has the strength and features of Panthera”? Until 2008 the answer was no, as most Nitrile material is far less flexible than NR latex, is weaker and is more prone to splitting. (Catastrophic failure)
Recent advancement in nitrile material means we now have the ability to meet the Panthera specifications in the key areas of “Force at Break” (one of the requirements of EN455 Part 2) and watertight test values (EN455 Part 1) and as such we have made Ebony available at the first opportunity.
Adding Ebony black nitrile examination gloves also gives tattooists ‘real choice’ in the glove material they prefer to use as part of their Health and Safety work wear programme. (PPE)
What is the difference natural rubber latex and Nitrile material?
Whilst latex has long been recognised as the ideal material for use in examination gloves, it is not without its problems. It has been widely documented that some glove users find that they are allergic to the naturally occurring water extractable proteins found in natural rubber latex material and simply cannot use any product containing natural rubber latex. Furthermore, whilst being a superb barrier against blood borne pathogens, natural rubber latex is not a good barrier against chemicals used in the house or place of work.
Nitrile (Acrylonitrile Butadiene synthetic rubber) is a man made synthetic rubber latex material with many of the favourable benefits of natural rubber latex. As Nitrile gloves contain no proteins it is an ideal alternative for glove users that require protection from blood borne pathogens and body fluids but cannot or do not wish to wear gloves made from natural rubber latex.
Another benefit of Nitrile gloves is that the Nitrile material is more tolerant of chemicals than natural rubber latex. As with all disposable gloves, glove wearer should always seek advice on the suitability of Nitrile gloves as a protective barrier against a specific chemical.
Why produce both a 240mm length and a 300mm extra length glove?
For some time now we have been asked by tattooists whether we could provide disposable gloves that had a 300mm length (12 inch) rather than 240mm length (9 inch). As always we listened and have reacted to the request by adding 300mm length gloves in both our Ebony and Panthera glove ranges.
It is expected that 300mm length gloves will be used by tattooists when tattooing on a customer’s back, thigh or upper leg.
300mm Length gloves also give additional protection to the lower arm of glove users, who are wearing the gloves for general protection.
Are 300mm length gloves available in 5 sizes?
Yes!
